I've seen Madonna on tour twice in my lifetime. First in 2004 for the Reinvention Tour and then again in 2006 for the Confessions Tour. Both tours focused on the elaborate theatrics of a performance all the while pushing buttons to get a point across (political, social, sexual.)
After a few sneak peaks at the costumes and set designs for the Sticky and Sweet Tour beforehand I wasn't sure what to expect as they didn't seem to meet the others half way, although the price tag on tickets was doubled. I will say with all honesty that I didn't LOVE the Hard Candy album at first but after seeing Madonna's show at Madison Square Garden on Sunday I find myself playing the record on repeat.
Sticky and Sweet's focus was to cut out all the theatrical fluff (that we all enjoy) and escape into a huge dance party. Concert goers let down all inhibitions and danced all night away, focusing on having an experience full of light hearted fun. However, never one to pass up an opportunity to voice her opinions whether it be political, social or religious; jabs were rightfully dished at Vice Presidential hopeful Sarah Palin.
Video montages ranged from extreme: Hitler and war images to Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Pharrell, Kanye West and boxing sequences. Say whatever you want about the 50 year old pop-icon but this tour is evidence that she has the potential to be onstage commanding the public to their feet for another 50 years!
