Ok so things have been a little slow this past week as TLC has some house guests from London who are visiting NYC for the first time. We have been busy busy bees with little time for blogging AND finally getting around to posting about the super fun Rumble Strips gig at The Bowery Ballroom on Nov. 1st.
I'd heard about the Rumble Strips whilst living in Londontown last year -- the boys are big in the UK indie circuit and was immediately smitten with Charlie Waller's honest-to-goodness sincere delivery and well crafted pop songs. Their penchant for brass is a refreshing and rare sound in indie rock today.
They're circling round the US in support of debut album, Girls and Weather, and the Bowery show was one of many NYC appearances in the past couple of months that included CMJ showcases. The crowd was a bit disappointingly sparse with a few fun-loving fans interjecting some energy during highlights like Boys and Girls In Love, Cowboy, Motorcycle and their fabulous cover of Thin Lizzy's The Boys Are Back In Town. Also spotted for like the hundredth time that week was Mark Ronson, who is currently working with The Rumble Strips on their second album.
