Spank Rock, Ninjasonik and Japanther at Bodega

I was delightfully surprised to hear Spank Rock was playing Bushwick's Bodega yesterday along with Brooklyn's Japanther and Ninjasonik, especially since it's so closeby my apartment.

It was the typical crowd of sweaty, shirtless guys, girls with messy hair and a cloud of smoke floating right above. All sets were pretty short, but high on the energy scale. I found myself in the middle of the crowd moshing out, getting my drinks spilled all over whilst trying to protect my poor Olympus. Was a fun Wednesday night I'd say! Check out Spank Rock's killer studded boots.

The White Stripes Reunite for Conan's Last Broadcast

After a 2 year hiatus, Jack and Meg White are reuniting onstage as The White Strips for Late Night with Conan O'Brien. The February 20th broadcast will mark the final episode of the 17 year run of 'Late Night' with Conan O'Brien as host before Jimmy Fallon takes over (really bad choice in my opinion, but Jess loves him and is excited!)

The band is currently working on a seventh studio album which is slated for a 2009 summer release. Jack White recently confirmed that he is working on a duet with Radiohead's Thom Yorke.

Bat For Lashes Shares Glass

Listen to the new track Glass by Bat for Lashes to hit the internet.

The tune starts out as a very haunting, dark and beautiful showcase of Natasha Kahn's gorgeous voice, building up to the thumping drum line that becomes the anchor of the song. The tune actually reminds me a bit of the sound Bjork was going for with the 2007 record, Volta. Out of respect to the artist, I've posted a streaming MP3 link to the unreleased song. Enjoy the song below and make sure to pick up Two Suns when it is released on April 6th (Album cover art to the left.)

Moon and Moon was also debuted on the Culture show on BBC2, check that out HERE. Enjoy the gorgeous take on the Bruce Springsteen classic I'm on Fire below!

The Maccabees Have No Kind Words: Free Download Released

Brighton via South London art-rockers, The Maccabees, have released a free download today via their newly revamped website.

No Kind Words is a track from forthcoming sophomore album, Wall of Arms, and had its premiere as The Hottest Record In The World on Zane Lowe's BBC Radio 1 show tonight (Feb. 9).

The Maccabees' debut, Colour It In, is a gem that has been harshly overlooked in The States -- a deeply affecting, lilting and sentimental musical effusion. Wall of Arms promises to be one of TLC's most anticipated albums of 2009.

Listen to tonight's Zane Lowe show featuring a chat with guitarist/vocalist Felix White HERE.

Many opportunities to catch The Maccabees in London this spring!
Matter @ The O2 - Feb. 20
Camden Barfly - March 5
The Electric Ballroom - May 5

Little Boots Gets Magical at Studio B

Last night Greenpoint was bestowed the honor of having one of the most buzzed about artists, Little Boots, take the stage at Studio B. TLC interviewed Little Boots before sound check (stay tuned!) at which point she was distraught about the technical difficulties encountered with her Tenori-On. Unfortunately she was unable to get a hold of a new cable in time, but the show must go on!

The highly anticipated show got a late start at about 1 AM as Little Boots aka Victoria Hasketh stepped on stage in a gorgeous sheer hooded black dress. During the amazing 7-song set, Victoria debuted 2 new songs and bowed out after a stellar rendition of Stuck on Repeat. Beautiful, transient and brief, Little Boots left us all pleading for more even without the Tenori-on.

Short Yet Passionate: Passion Pit at Bowery

Passion Pit played a very short and sweet set last night at Bowery Ballroom with supporting acts Paper Route and Cale Parks. The band unveiled three new songs from their upcoming full-length debut (which lead singer Michael Angelakos said would be released in May.) My only question is, where was Cuddle Fuddle on the set list??

Passion Pit will play two more shows in Massachusetts before heading across the pond for a brief UK tour. The tour will include an NME Awards Show on February 18th with the Black Kids at Koko and a show at London Cargo on February 23rd with Bear Hands and Hockey. Read this interesting article on the band who is being called 'America's Hottest New Act' in the UK.
