We've finally gotten over our holiday hangovers and are back from our hiatus! Check out the TLC list for all things 2008. Agree? Disagree? We were hoping for some last minute 2008 additions, but the last few weeks of 2008 proved to be extremely boring in the blogosphere. We will resume posting as usual in 2009. Happy New Year!
LOVED:
- The Return of Portishead: 11 years after the release of their self-titled sophomore studio album, the band finally returned from a 10 year hiatus to release the critically-acclaimed album, Third. The band recently announced plans to tour and record a follow up!
- Scarlett Johansson's Anywhere I Lay My Head: I will get some flack for this but I really enjoyed Scarjo's album of Tom Waits covers. Apparently the NME shared my sentiments and ranked it #23 of their top 50 albums of 2008.
- Friendly Fires: We caught the band perform live a few times in 2008 and became instant fans.

- Kings of Leon's Extreme Make Over: Much-needed haircuts were the final step in making these boys stadium ready.
- Bjork's Wanderlust Video Premiere Exhibit: Fans trekked to Long Island City's Deitch Projects space in March to catch Bjork's much-lauded 3D video for Wanderlust from the 2007 album Volta.
- Diesel xXx NYC Finale: M.I.A. surprises the world by taking the stage with an announced pregnancy, Hot Chip collaborates with Chaka Khan, the list goes on!
- Passion Pit: With only an EP released, Chunk of Change, this Boston electro band hit the ground running in 2008.
- True Blood: From the makers of HBO's Six Feet Under, True Blood stars Anna Paquin in this sexy and edgy televeision adaptation of Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse novels. Season 1 left the world at the edge of their seats, but we'll have to wait til late 2009 for the next chapter.
- Barack Obama: Yes we did!
- Gossip Girl: For the fashion and the drama, never a disappointment.
- Outdoor Concerts - Summer 2008: McCarren Pool Parties, Central Park Summerstage, Prospect Park Bandshell were the place to be for free music entertainment.

- Milk: Milk was one of the most important films of 2008, a year that found people desperate for change. When Harvey Milk gave his speech about hope much like our US President elect Barack Obama did throughout his campaign, there was not a dry eye in the theatre. A truly beautiful film thanks to Gus Van Sant and the amazing cast consisting of Emile Hirsch, Sean Penn, James Franco, Diego Luna and Josh Brolin.
- Slumdog Millionaire: The film opens with the jarring "O...Saya" and follows the journey of two brothers trying to survive a harsh life and love in the slums of Mumbai. The film revolves around the interrogation of Jamal who is suspected of cheating in a game show, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? This film is a rollercoaster of emotions and gives a real insight into a harsh life that most of us are lucky enough not to have to endure. A must!
LOATHED:
- Covers: Although some were really good, I think people went overboard covering songs by Hot Chip and Britney (to name a few.)
- Synedoche, NY: Great acting, great camera work but it was overall a confusing snoozer.
The Death of Heath Ledger: Such a great loss of talent.
April 4, 1979 – January 22, 2008.
The Death of Sparks (energy): Great loss of underage memories.
2002 - 2008.
- Madonna's Hard Candy: How do you go from the geniousity of Confessions on a Dancefloor to this?
- Amazing Baby: We saw them open for Bloc Party...is the world getting paid to write good things about this band?
- The Recession Crisis of 2008: Really sucked.
- Top Shop in the US: In 2008, the UK retailer delayed opening up it's first US retail store in SoHo, NY until spring 2009.
- Media oversaturation of: Britney Spears, Angelina Jolie, and Amy Winehouse.
- Perez Hilton: Are people still interested in what he has to say?
- Warner Music v. Youtube: Shame on you Warner Music!
- MGMT live: Just not good. We love Oracular Spectacular but when we saw the band at McCarren Park Pool and again months later opening for Beck, we were disspointed both times. Not a good translation from studio to the stage.
- McCarren Park Pool Closing: We'll see if it's final this summer.
