TLC hadn't quite experienced a live show like Glasvegas' last night at Bowery Ballroom in a very long time. A passionate band playing serious and powerful music, Glasvegas enthralled the audience as they deftly performed a selection of songs from their eponymous debut album at full-throttle.
The band took the stage and tore into Flowers and Football Tops and we immediately marveled at how well James Allan's vocals came across live -- his voice was pitch perfect and just as emotive as on record. Without much chatter during the set, the band offered a few sincere thanks and smiles to the crowd in between songs and seemed genuinely grateful as they walked off at the end of the set. 
The stage lighting was striking (if a bit too bright) and punctuated the music perfectly, creating an almost cinematic effect. Highlights included It's My Own Cheating Heart That Makes Me Cry, Go Square Go, and set-closer/crowd favorite Daddy's Gone. We were so glad we were able to see Glasvegas at a venue as intimate as Bowery before they move on to Webster Hall (tix for March gig still available) and beyond.
We were also very glad we were able to catch opener Angela McCluskey's set. I was familiar with her mostly from her work with Citizens Band, but am now fully enchanted by her sultry and sweet voice. She charmed the audience with her clever and earnest tunes and was a delight to watch.
