Tuesday evening Ryan Adams played with my emotions when he announced that his blog would be ending. For the second time, my heart sank and I thought that the best little piece of the internet had died. I believed it because he had posted a written goodbye note, it felt permanent. It was also the second time he talked of pulling the plug in the past month. Yet, I still felt that maybe he would be returning and was saddened to find no updates on Wednesday.
To my delight, he was back today! He's gone blonde, live blogged his hair dying experience (with photos), and then went on to update 3 times in the 10 minutes it took me to look at today's little gems. These things mean little to people who don't care much for Ryan Adams and it takes a great deal of explaining what makes RyRy's blog so amazing, but let me try.
His blogging gives his fans a look into very private moments & spaces including: his bedroom, personal guitar collection, daily purchases, his newly created art, poems, bits of songs, and most importantly his crazy wonderful thoughts. You get a chance to jump along with him as he recollects favorite books, albums, movies, about how much he loves living in New York, Knut the Polar Bear, & space - just to name a few. On the rare occasion, he will write about more personal things, like the heartbreak of his recent break up, going deaf, or clearing up past rumors about himself. It's everything a fan shouldn't know, but loves finding out. It also makes a fan feel closer to the artist and in a way it's wrong to have these things available to you...but, it IS amazingly fascinating to watch an artist's creative process. Especially so when they tide you over with funny little songs and videos until their next album is out (or the demos leak). And he also happens to update so frequently one loses count how many times a day they check to see if there are any new posts. What's there not to love...or at the very least, admire?

ahhh he's so psycho....and i LOVE IT
Nice one! :)
Ryan Adams in reality blogging...gaw blimey. My instant reaction to learning this fact was one of disgust, but very soon after, I realised that the level of recognition the man has amassed is irrelevant. He's no different to the rest of us, publicly documenting his own life as so many of us do now. At first I thought it gross narcissism, but now I would say refreshing perspective. Fair play to him for retaining some humanity :)
And this particular blog title is a Silver Jews song I've just noticed...covered by Pavement...errr, diddlydoo, diddlydoo...16 years ago. Oh my christ I'm getting old...
