The Verve at MSG

The Verve played two nights at the theater at Madison Square Garden this week. My friends and I went to the second show on Tuesday night. I never thought I'd see the day when The Verve would reunite. I'd never even seen Richard Ashcroft solo over the years so this show definitely exceeded my expectations. They played all the big hits from Urban Hymns and we were all really hoping to hear some more classics off A Northern Soul but seems as though they opted to play a bunch of new songs instead. The new material was good, especially the closing song which felt like a club anthem. The crowd was quite tame and it was weird because I definitely felt like one of the youngest people there...what happened to all the Britpop kids from back in the day?!

I didn't realize how dynamic a frontman Richard is. He was in top form, all flaily and punchy and full of swagger. In between drinking and smoking and playing guitar on stage, he even peeled and ate a banana. Very strange...chalk it up to rock n roll antics. I really hope their new album is great and they continue to tour.

Highlights included Bittersweet Symphony, Lucky Man, Rolling People, Shine On
